Throughout the past year, I have learned a lot about myself, my family, my friends, and the others that surround me.
From my mother's heart attack at the beginning of the summer to a wedding to a much-needed vacation, my summer has been full of joys and hardships. There has been tears of laughter and tears of utter frustration. I have realized quite a number of things, such as the frustation of growing older, the hardships of marriage, the mess of family, and the love of those around us. I honestly do not think that I could have picked a better summer to do a project that was designed to capture the people that are around me. The impact of the words, the actions, and the outpouring of love is deeper and wider than we usually take time to understand. I have been short on words to describe some of the things that have been going on this summer, but I have no shortage of images. My Instagram, @amcelroy96, has been full of the emotions, thoughts, and reality in this current stage of my life. It has been a hard year, yet I find comfort in my camera. My sanctuary has been seeing my reality through a lense, the grain of the film, and translation of the stories of these images. I encourage you to check out the gallery below. I will have a part three coming in the next 3 to 4 weeks to wrap up this project. Thanks for checking out this work.
