I was born and raised in East Tennessee. I seek adventure in every aspect of my life. Whether that is sitting at a coffee shop or climbing a mountain, I think adventure is everywhere. There are a few aspects of my life that I want to let you know about. First, I am a truth seeker, love doer, photo taker, and adventure maker. I started this blog in college to share these aspects and inspire others to Awaken Adventure. I hate about pages so I decided to let my three best friends write my about page. I think they capture who I am and what I do much better than I could ramble on.
I think there is no better way to understand a person then their closest friends. So below are what my three best friends say what I do and who I am. A while back, I made an analogy that they are the crew on my ship. So below are their titles, but here are the translations of the titles. My Co-Captain is my partner-in-life, she loves adventuring and making life-long memories. My Navigator is my stabilizer and helps me remember who I was and who I want to be, she loves coffee and having long conversations about anything. My Second Mate is my adventure partner and is always up for anything, he loves exploring and enjoying life one day at a time. I am sure as I grow older my ship will add a few lucky people. I am especially thankful that these three have chosen to sail on with me.
Ally Blackmon - Co-Captain
"I could talk about how Andrew loves adventure. I could tell you about a time he went to Canada and back with his best friend in 26 hours. I could tell you about the time he made me camp for a week while we road tripped across New England. I could tell you how he loves his neighbors. But I am not going to. I am going to tell you who Andrew McElroy is.
First let me say, you will never meet a more loyal soul. He leads fearlessly. He loves tremendously. And he captures endlessly.
He is a friend of many and an influencer of plenty. He is a dreamer, seeker, and doer. All gas and no brakes. His passions run wide. He desires the truth. He is authentic and genuine. He goes about his life with grace. He holds his head high even when it’s hard. He tells stories through simple, yet intriguing photographs. He can make you belly laugh for hours at a time. He is not afraid to be goofy; he embraces it 200%. He sacrifices. He endures. But most importantly at the end of the day, he stands tall, confidently. Andrew is one of the most hardworking people I know. He doesn’t stop until he is satisfied.
We are all better because we know Andrew. His presence radiates a room. Whether you see him at the local coffee shop getting work done or killing time at Target, say hi. Your day will be brighter and life will be fuller. The Lord has created Andrew to be a world-changer. I am blessed because I get to know him and you will be, too."
Lily Crosby - Navigator
"From early morning coffees to late night beers this man never stops dreaming and believing in a world of possibilities. He has a head full of knowledge, a heart full of passion, and a gut full of coffee. In high school we outlined our first coffee shop, in college we delineated our first skyscraper. To me these were majestic ideas – to him they were grand realities. His passion for his people, his God, and his pastimes shine through everything he does. He is known for his loving spirit, spontaneous international travel, and miraculous early graduation after transferring three times. No matter where he wanders he will always be found with his camera, his passport, his Chacos, and his journal. No matter where he wanders he won’t be lost because of his heart, his courage, his spirit, and his companions. The world is truly a better place with this man in it, and I hope one day you get to witness his greatness firsthand.
Live simply, think deeply, and adventure whimsically and you’ll be one step closer to exemplifying the life of one of the best people I know - Andrew McElroy."
Baylor Ingram - 2nd Mate
"Adventurer, Christian, friend, hard worker, and brother. Andrew has been my best friend for some time now. He is the type of friend that you would call if you needed anything at all. In the summer of 2017, he drove all the way from Tennessee to the middle of Maine to pick me up from the first part of my Appalachian Trail thru-hike. His love for the outdoors and adventure has led us on many great adventures together including my very first backpacking trip and an on-the-whim Canada trip. When I think of Andrew, I think of the type of person I strive to be, Andrew loves fully and treats all with respect. He is hardworking and constantly learning new things. I could go on and on about how great Andrew is and how much of a positive effect he has had on the life, but I'll save you the time.
More miles and smiles.. onward."
